Kitt had decided to stay home from school today.
There was a huge exam in gym that she would prefer not to do, and if she was absent when the exam was, with a bit of luck her teacher would forget, with a little cunning, that Kitt had been absent.
At least, that's the idea.
With nothing to do today, since her friends were learning, the redheaded girl bounced a basketball nonchalantly against the asphalt of her driveway. She sighed lonesomely.

Allie was sick that day. Her mother, the worrywart, insisted she stay home from school, and Allie, not wanting to worry her mom any more than usual, had agreed. She was currently outside, walking down the street in the oddly brisk air, with a purple All Time Low hoodie zipped tight over her torso and a headband to match pushing her dark hair away from the face.

Kitt noticed one of the girls in her class, Allie, meandering around in a purple hoodie and immediately bolted over, simply because she had nothing better to do and she might make a new friend. "Hey!" she smiled, "What's up?"

Allie blinked. She didn't know why Kitt, this girl who was really nothing more than a classmate to her, was suddenly talking to her, but what the heck. Allie didn't like being rude to people, so she smiled at Kitt and shrugged.
"Not much. I'm sick. Managed to get my mom to let me go for a walk, though. How about you?"

Kitt shrugged. "Don't wanna do all those stupid gym stretches." She looked at the basketball cupped lightly in one freckled hand and asked Allie a simple question, "Hey, are you busy today? Wanna play basketball?"

Allie laughed at Kitt's gym comment, and then smiled and nodded when she was asked to play basketball.
"Sure. Don't expect me to be very good, though."

Kitt laughed. "Well, I skipped gym for a reason." Kitt bolted to her spot, and checked the ball to Allie, then tensed, waiting.

Allie laughed, catching the ball and dribbling it.
"Touché." She grinned and passed it back. "Much better than sitting through gym, huh?"

Kitt laughed again. "Yeah, I know, right?" With these distracting words, Kitt nipped closer to try, unsuccessfully, to steal the basketball from Allie.

Allie turned around so her back was to Kitt, and started dribbling towards the basket. She jumped up and shot, but the ball missed, hit the backboard, and rebounded onto the court.
"Damn!" She laughed, holding her face in her hands. "See, I told you not to expect much!"

Kitt grinned. "It's okay, I'm no good either." As if o prove her point, Kitt tried to reclaim the ball, but slipped on the gravel driveway. "See what I mean?" she laughed.

Kitt smiled and allowed Allie to tug her to her feet. "Yep, I'm fine. Thanks for caring," she said, trying to hide the happiness in her voice. Not many people truly cared about Kitt, and even Luna was often somewhat aloof.
